SUPERINTENDENT MAKES CONNECTION AT MINI-SUMITT The UCPLC’s mini-summit allowed us to establish a connection with the NCSSM and Melissa Thibault, Vice Chancellor for District Education and Extended Programs. Having not attended this mini-summit, our students would not have access to these higher level math and science courses.   13. SOUTH AFRICIAN DRUMMER TEACHES DEAF STUDENTS THE LANGUAGE OF THE DRUMS

  14. NOW STUDENTS AT THE EASTERN NC SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF ARE TRYING TO FORM A STEP TEAM AND UNDER TAKE A DRAMATIC PRODUCTION

  15. IN HALIFAX COUNTY, THE 2,040 RESIDENTS OF SCOTLAND NECK NOW HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT A VERY ACTIVE PUBLIC LIBRARY

  16. SCOTLAND NECK LIBRARY EXPANDS SUMMER PROGRAMS Support from the UCPLC allowed the Scotland Neck Library to greatly expand its summer program offerings. Participation was fantastic and local businesses joined forces to celebrate . . . CHILDREN READING!!

  20. HALIFAX COUNTY YOUTH ENJOY ART CAMP Children 5 to 17 worked with paints, pen and ink, mosaics, stain glass, pottery, enameling, copper toiling, print making and cartooning at a wonderful summer camp at the 4-H Rural Family Life Center in Halifax County.

  21. UPPER COASTAL PLAIN LEARNING COUNCIL SECURES GREENHOUSE FOR EDGECOMBE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

  23. The greenhouse was constructed by the high school staff members and has been a great resource for students and staff in the agricultural study program.

  24. UCPLC BRINGS MIDDLE SCHOOL INNOVATORS ACADEMY TO EDGECOMBE COUNTY

  25. The Middle School Innovators Academy is a National Winner of the University Economic Developer Association Award for Talent Development

  26. MIDDLE SCHOOL INNOVATORS ACADEMY The MSIA is guided by the principles that the design process is the bridge between the arts and the sciences and enables creative and innovative activity that draws upon STEAM knowledge and skills.

  27. MISA students must use a melting wire to create a blue foam prototype of their project prior to showcasing the journey of their innovation at the final presentation.

  31. WISDOM TOOTH PROGRAM CONNECTS WITH YOUNG AUDIENCES • Visited daycare and preschool programs in all 5 counties • Shared information and dental packets with over 450 children and adults • Overwhelming SUCCESS results in program expansion
