Culture • In 1960’s there was popular TV show’s was Gun smoke ,wagon train ,the Andy griffin show, 77 sunset strip, and the Lucy show. • Popular 1960 music was big boss man, kiddies, big boy Pete ,the wind ,ill go crazy ,baby your might. • Popular 1960 movies was gorgy girl ,darling ,Lolita ,Oliver ,point blank ,the hustler.
Fashion & Fads • Some of the fads and fashions of the 1960's are familiar to us today. Some of which include the hippie style, along with many other kinds of hair styles, and clothes styles. High boots with a little heel, were popular. The top of the boot came a little more than half way up to the knee. Pearly fingernail polish was in for women. Pearly colors were light pink and very light reds. Pale lipsticks and black eyeliner were also in. A lot of the women wore false eyelashes. They made the eyelashes look even longer and darker. Mini skirts were a huge fashion trend. Some mini skirts were 6 inches above the knees. They also wore flat bar shoes, which had a little heel, with what looked liked a bar over the toe
Slang words • Blast A Great Time. Example: "We had a blast at the Prom". Blew the doors off Easily beat the other car in a race. Blitzed Drunk Blown A car engine that has a blower (supercharger) installed. Goes between the intake manifold and the carburetors/injectors. The blower made it go faster, which was always good. Blue Flamer Take a B.A. ( also in the slang section ) and add a big fart...then ignite it with a match
Interesting Facts • 1960 was a year of change for civil rights. In 1960, sit in demonstrations begin in Greensboro for civil rights. The Freedom Riders leave Washington DC by Greyhound Bus in 1961. 1963 sees the March on Washington. Edward Brooke is elected to the Senate in Washington in 1967. In 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is assassinated in Memphis.
