English • Daily guided reading activities • Spelling and handwriting • Exciting stories set in Brazil. • Poetry based on ‘Memory Bottles’. • Discuss the issue of rainforest use. • Big Write- weekly independent longer writing • Understanding the Arts • We will use role play to discuss the use of the rainforest. • For dance we will perform sambas • We will explore tie dye techniques when creating bandana designs. • Maths • Big Maths- daily focus on key number skills • We will be applying number skills to decimals. • We will be explore and present World Cup data. • We will use ‘Mathletics’ to hone and develop our skills. • Understanding Physical Development, Health and Well-being • We are learning to develop athletics & cricket skills. • We will be receiving weekly sessions from a sports coach • PE kits are needed on Wednesdays and Thursdays Scientific and Technological Understanding We will explore how the human body works. We will also explore the effects of exercise. We will find out about a tropical habitat and the ways plants and animals evolve and adapt to suit them. Hockney Class- Year 5/6 Summer Term 2014 ‘Brazil’ • ICT • We will be research the rainforest and use graphics programs to design Brazilian art. RE We are looking at our responsibility to care for the environment. • French • We will learn the phrases needed to: • to shopspecifically for ice-cream. • Historical, Geographical and Social Understanding • We will learn about Brazil; its population, culture, climate and economy. • We will discuss the impact of the World Cup. • We will use map skills to locate areas using an atlas.
