New Evangelization We wish to confirm once more that the task of evangelizing all people constitutes the essential mission of the Church… Evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelize, that is to say, in order to preach and teach, to be the channel of the gift of grace, to reconcile sinners with God, and to perpetuate Christ’s sacrifice in the Mass, which is the memorial of His death and glorious resurrection. ~ Pope Paul VI

Discernment The single most critical personal and spiritual skill for a lay apostle is discernment. Lay Christians need formation in order to adequately discern: Their God-given talents and spiritual gifts; Their personal call or vocation; The leading of the Holy Spirit; The meaning and value of temporal things; The creative application of Church teaching to specific situations.
Discernment To be able to discover the actual will of the Lord in our lives always involves the following: a receptive listening to the Word of God and the Church, fervent and constant prayer, recourse to a wise and loving spiritual guide, and a faithful discernment of the gifts and talents given by God, as well as the diverse social and historic situations in which one lives.
