Waves Vocab. Nic Quinn. Wave. A repeating disturbance or movement that transfers energy through matter or space. Medium. The matter that the wave travels through is the medium. Transverse Wave. Matter in the medium moves back and forth at right angles to the direction that the wave travels.

  2. Wave A repeating disturbance or movement that transfers energy through matter or space

  3. Medium The matter that the wave travels through is the medium

  4. Transverse Wave Matter in the medium moves back and forth at right angles to the direction that the wave travels

  5. Compressional Wave Matter in the medium moves back and forth along the same direction that the wave travels.

  6. Crests Crests are the alternating high points in a transverse wave.

  7. Troughs The alternating low points in a transverse wave.

  8. Rarefaction The less-dense region of a compressional wave.

  9. Wavelength The wavelength is the distance between one point on a wave and the nearest point just like it.

  10. Frequency The number of wavelengths that passed a fixed point each second.

  11. Period The amount of time it takes one wavelength to pass a point.

  12. Amplitude Amplitude is related to the energy carried by a wave
