Food • The pioneers had to hunt their food. They hunted bears, deer, rabbits and other animals.
Food • They used guns and knives when they hunted. During the winter, they had to hunt enough food for the winter. If they didn’t kill deer and bears they wouldn’t survive.
Clothing • Pioneer girls and women wore dresses. The boys and men wore pants and long-sleeve shirts. The men also wore suspenders. On Sundays, the pioneers had to wear their best clothes to church.
Clothing • For hats, the woman and girls wore bonnets. The men and boys wore hunting hats. Sometimes they didn’t wear any hats.
Transportation • Pioneers mostly traveled in wagons. Sometimes oxen pulled the wagons, but at other times horses pulled them.
Transportation • Some pioneers traveled on horses. They also rode in horse - drawn carriages to travel to school, the general store, and other places.
Shelter • When pioneers traveled, they used their cloth covered wagons for shelter. They slept in their wagons.
Shelter • Pioneers had to build log cabins to live in. They slept, cooked, ate, played, and washed in the cabins.
