  1. Barbie Bungee Y = mx + b Thrill her Don’t Kill her

  2. ???What & Why??? What Why Barbie will help us learn how math can be fun to use in the real world She will be bungee jumping to teach us how to: Collect data Organize it As a table As a graph Use mathematics to make predictions We will learn to create and use our own line of best fit to develop a linear equation. We will use our linear equation to predict Barbie’s Long Distance Big Drop. We will use technology to assist us. • Tie 3 rubber bands around Barbie’s ankles • Drop Barbie from any platform. • Record the distance she fell (Dis. Would be from the platform to the tip of her head) • Repeat these steps to get an average for using three rubber bands. • Add on 3 more rubber bands and repeat the first three steps • Create a scatter plot representing (x)number of rubber bands & (y)distance of drop • Choose a line of best fit • Create an equation for our line of best fit

  3. Collecting Data

  4. Information/Data Table Graph

  5. Line of Best Fit Final Step Y = 4.756x – 5.608

  6. Point of NO RETURN Calculation 900.000 = 4.756x -5.608 + 5.608 = +5.608 905.608 = 4.756x 4.756 4.756 190.41379 = x Or x ≈ 190 Our Equation: Y = 4.756x – 5.608 Our Given Drop Distance: 900 inches Our prediction was to use 185 rubber bands.

  7. Drop Day Does Barbie make it?

  8. THE END Unfortunatly, our prediction was wrong.  Barbie did not survive the BIG DROP  We apologize to those who will miss Barbie.

  9. THANK YOU Mathematical Credits Technical Credits Imputer = Bob Graphers = Mag & Sam Power Pointers : --Bob -- Mag --Sam -- Anna • Holder/Dropper = Sam • Eyeballers = Bob & Mag • Recorder = Anna • Calculator = Sam Miscellaneous Work: We all pitched in on tying and untying rubber bands. Fixing her clothes and keeping information organized.
