4. Transport andvehicles • Theland transport includes: • rail transport –itneedsrailwaytracks, • road transport – itneedsroads and highways, • off-road transport – itcan use a variety ofsurfaces. Do youknow… ? Modern high-speed railis capable of speeds up to 350 km/h (220 mph), but this requires specially built track. Obr. 1

6. Off-road transport Off-roading is driving or riding a vehicle on roads or tracks, made of materials such as sand, gravel, mud, snow, rocks and other natural terrain. Famous off-road vehicles are: all-terrain vehicle (ATV), also known asa quad, quad bike, or four-wheeler and sport utility vehicle (SUV). Obr. 5

7. Driving a car • Driversmustkeeprulesoftheroadwhiledriving. • The basic rule is to use the left or right side of the road. • Trafficiscontrolled by trafficlightsandsigns. • There are speed limits on theroads. • Everybodyneeds a driving licence. Obr. 6 Obr. 7

Thissideofthe car iscalled „offside“. • To therightofthe driver seatisthe front passenger´s seat. Thissideofthe car iscalledthe „nearside“. • Thegearstickisplacedbetweenthetwo front seatsandthereisalsothehandbrake. In themiddleofthe car andabovethewindscreen, thereistherear-viewmirror.
