Circle Membership Initiatives Some suggested ideas and a review of the basics….. Addressing a wider (& younger)audience • Seek volunteers in your Circle who are willing to join the Parent Teacher Associations or volunteer to be School Governors. • Run “Fun Events” at school or parish fetes, aimed mainly at Children. • Run career-oriented events at Secondary Schools & 6th Form Colleges. • Circles should attend, support & sponsor all Catholic Fund-Raisers. • Ask Council Members to approach, talk to and give young men at Church a contact card and an invitation to a Circle Meeting or Event. • You can almost certainly think of more, specific local initiatives…..? All the above activities help to raise awareness, dispel The Cateniansold “elitist, secret & secretive” image & attract potential prospects. North Warwickshire Circle MO 07803 921 749
Awareness Events – Basics – The 6 “P”s “Proper Planning Prevents Palpably Poor Performance” – The 6 “P”s. • Talk to the Clergy/Teachers first, arrange to mention the event in the Newsletter, & provide contact phone #s and email addresses. • Brief Circle attendees at a prior meeting and tell them what to do & not to do, (ideally) how to dress and what to say. • Pulpit Presentations are a useful awareness raising activity, but nothing will ever replace personal contact, so work on this. • Talk to prospects, give them a card with your name & contact details. Why not ask Council Members to do this? Encourage them….! • Whenever possible, ask prospects for their name, phone #s & email. • Follow up all prospects in a friendly but professional & persistent way. Follow-Up in a Friendly, Professional Way Obtain prospect details: Name, address, email, phone#s, background. • Send prospects a copy of the Circular and individually invite them to events that may interest them. • Contact should be regular, friendly and persistent unless firmly told to go away. PERSISTENCE PAYS. • Allocate prospects a friend or “mentor” in Circle. (Usually their “sponsor”, or else someone on the Membership Committee?) • The mentor should meet & greet VGs at Circle Meetings, & stay with them to ensure they’re comfortable & explain what’s happening. • Please do ensure a suitably friendly Circle lady is asked to look after each VG’s wife at Circle Meals & events. It really is essential to both get and then to keep VG’s Wives on-side and positive. North Warwickshire Circle MO 07803 921 749
