Course Description Develop total body fitness Cardio training methods will include: step aerobics kickboxing interval training walking and jogging circuit training Zumba (when available) Resistance training methods will include: stability balls hand weights weight bars medicine balls rubber tubing body weight exercises An emphasis on flexibility at the end of workouts will take place through individual and partner stretch routines, use of bands, and exercises derived from yoga or pilates.

Course Description Student knowledge and skills: Track workouts and reflect in daily journal Track fitness levels on fitness testing log Analyze daily habits (exercise, diet, sleep, hydration, etc.) Set and achieve goals for health and fitness. Use safe and effective methods for weight management

  5. Grading 50% of your grade is participation and attendance. You will begin each quarter with 50 participation points Point losses = Non dress (5pts), Poor participation (5 pts), Excused absence (2 pts), Unexcused absence (5 pts), Tardies (four or more– 5 pts) 25% of your grade is based on completing fitness tests 15% of your grade is based on completing class work (includes workout journal, assignments and quizzes). 10% of your grade is based on your final exam

Personal Responsibility DRESS CODE VIOLATION POLICY: 1st offense = Warning, expected to have clothes the very next class 2nd offense = Point loss, Parents notified 3rd offense = Point loss, Parents notified, Community service 4th offense and beyond = Point loss, Parents notified, Community service, Discipline referral 6th offense = loss of credit in the class
  8. Personal Responsibility BE ON TIME! Dressed and submitted attendance card 5 minutes after the tardy bell rings Any time after 5 min = Tardy More than 20 min late = Absent Must have admit slip from attendance office to enter class
  9. Personal Responsibility TARDY POLICY First 2 offenses = Warning 3rd offense = Parents notified 4th offense and beyond = Parents notified, Point loss, Discipline referral, LOSS OF CREDIT
  10. Personal Responsibility ATTENDANCE POLICY Excused absences result in a 2 point loss. Come and make up your missed workout. Parents have 48 hours to call in an excused absence School-relatedabsences do not result in a consequence Unexcused absences or truancies 1st offense = Point loss (5 PTS) 2nd offense = Parents notified, Point loss 3rd offense = Parents notified, Point loss, Community service 4th offense and beyond = Discipline referral 6th offense = loss of credit in the class
  11. Personal Responsibility PARTICIPATE! Be a help, not a hindrance. You WILL dress down and be active EVERY DAY Work hard always (lack of effort = point loss) Take notes and listen during instruction, allow others to learn Respect the teacher, respect each other Use equipment for its intended use Keep the equipment room organized and clean Have a positive attitude, make this class fun!
  12. Fitness Testing 2 Testing sessions: Pre, Post Fitness Tests: PACER (Cardiorespiratory fitness) Push Ups (Muscular strength/endurance) 1 Min Curl Ups (Muscular strength/endurance) Sit/Reach Height/Weight (BMI) Body Composition (Skinfolds) *optional*
  13. Daily Journal Must keep a daily log of workouts Day/Date Workout performed Heart rates Weights used Personal reflection, teacher questions Keep notes on content given in class (topics vary – nutrition, weight management, daily habits (sleep, hydration, diet, etc.))
  14. Classwork Expect to be quizzed every quarter on content given in class and daily workouts There will be a final exam Assignments will be given to reinforce content Your workout journal is an assignment that will be graded (rubric provided)
  15. PE Department Rules No food or drink in the gym. Only water is acceptable. No backpacks in the gym. Store your belongings in your school locker or your PE locker. Stay in the gym until the bell rings. Use of drinking fountains in the foyer is limited to passing period or teacher permission during class only. Please do not enter the teaching area or use equipment when the teacher is not present. PLEASE…no street shoes on the gym floor! Walk along the walls. Please leave electronic devices in your locker
  16. Locks and Locker Rooms In-season athletes – athletic locker room All other PE students – PE locker room Do not store important school materials in locker room Locker room may be locked as an added measure of security
  17. Sickness/Injury If you are here, dress down Perform modified version of activities within your limits Sitting out is not an option Parent notes are not an excuse to sit out. They may, however, explain the nature of your sickness or injury. Alternative assignments may be given if necessary (if a doctor’s note requires non-participation)
  18. Tutorial 11:00-11:30 (M, T, Th, F) How to utilize: Missing notes, assignments, or tests Missed work out This is an opportunity to make up participation points! Stay on top of your grade!
