    1. Basic Strategic Art Program FA59 Qualification Course

    2. Purpose

    3. BSAP Current and Future Current: Concept/Curriculum Validated Pilot Course conducted 16 Jun-17 Sep 03 Future: Linked to Implementation of Intermediate Level Education (ILE) in FY05 May shift from summer (Jun-Sep) to winter (Jan-April) ILE Core Course + BSAP = MEL 4/ FA59 Qualification

One Course per Fiscal Year Seminar Format: up to 15 officers 14 week total immersion – TDY status Sequential instruction – build foundation of theory, history, doctrine, “systems”, staff rides / visits and planning exercises. Resident and Guest lecturers / SMEs Refine communication skills Tailored instruction where appropriate Graduate Level / Adult Learning Model Leverage AWC resident & non-resident events

Curriculum Strategic Theory Strategic Art National Security Decision Making Interagency & Pentagon Staff Ride (4 days) Contemporary Security Challenges Army Systems Land Power Joint Warrior Planning Exercise (4 days) Capstone Event (5 days) Grant’s 1864 Overland Campaign Staff Ride & JFCOM Staff Visit

    6. Faculty Team Two full time instructors serving as educators and mentors conduct the program: Course Director: LTC, FA59 Professor of Military Strategy and Operations: Title 10 Instructor Admin/Tech—GS-7 Supported by world class expertise—resident and adjunct faculty.

    7. Summary BSAP provides: The foundation for Army strategists Rounds out the officer’s ILE/MEL-4 education Provides the officer with the ability to be immediately effective to gaining / current organization

The active force currently has a shortfall of 59’s to fill designated billets---total population is about 185 officers MAJs—86 LTC—74 COL—25 15 officers of these 185 are JSO/3L----8 are COLs and 7 are LTCs.
