Facts about school lunches • The calorie count of lunches are required to be between 700-800 before there was a minimum of 825 calories • Elementary students lunches are between 550 and 650 calories • Those that earn 130%-185% of poverty level qualify for reduced-price meals • 4.5 billion dollars was put into lunch programs in the past couple years • LA public schools have Meatless Mondays

  3. Childhood Obesity • Mississippi has the highest child obesity rate in the nation • 1 out of every 4 people are too overweight to join the military • 1/5 of American children are obese • Over 30% of adults and 17% of children in the United States are overweight or obese

  4. Unhealthy Snacking • New guidelines do not affect foods in vending machines and snack bars • Many schools have banned sugary snacks and drinks off campus • It's more common for teens to "snack" for lunch • Demand for sugary sodas and snacks leads to students are lining up at vending machines
