  1. Sophos 101 How to use the new version

  2. Is your version current? The versions of Sophos has currently been updated to version 6.5.x • The icon for the current version of Sophos is a Blue Shield for both work and home installs • If the Icon is a Red Lightning bolt [Work] • or you also have a Blue Star [Home install] you will need to upgrade your software.

  3. Network Installation • Install from NAL • Start > Run > nalwin32 > OK

  4. Sophos for MAC • Sophos is available for OS-X 10.2 is available for download - http://its.monash.edu/staff/software/antivirus/mac.html • These are a full set of step by step instructions.

  5. Sophos for Home • The download is available at - http://its.monash.edu/staff/software/antivirus/home.html • These are a full set of step by step instructions.

  6. Updating Sophos • Updating is done automatically via the network, it can be manually done by right clicking on the sophos shield in the system tray and selecting update now.

  7. Scanning your PC • Open Sophos via the start menu • or right clicking on the Blue shield

  8. Sophos will open and you can start a scan by clicking on “Scan my computer” • A progress window will then appear.

  9. If your PC has any issues they will be displayed as threats passed to quarantine in the summary window that appears when you scan is finished. • By clicking on Quarantine in either window you will bring up the quarantine manager.

  10. Quarantine Manager • This example shows a pc with infections, to clean them you can either tick the individual virus’s in question or use the select all button. After the files you want to remove are ‘ticked’ simply press the Clean Up button.

  11. Scanning other drives or devices • To scan another drive or a removable device click on New Scan on the main Sophos page

  12. Select the Drive Letter of removable device you want to scan and click on Save and start.
