MASHIYAC-CHRISTOS-ANOINTED-HINIRANG “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matt. 16. cf.16; Jn. 20:31)
The Anointing of Christ • In Eternity (Heb. 1:8-9; 9:14) • In His Incarnation (Matt. 1:18-child of the Holy Ghost; Lk. 2:11-a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord) • In His Public Ministry (Lk. 4:18-19-The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me…cf. Isa. 61:1-2)
The Anointing of Christ • Based on His character (Heb. 1:8-9; 9:14)-anointed with oil of gladness-the Father is pleased with the Son (Matt. 3:17; 17:5; 2 Pet. 1:17) • Based on His assumed responsibilities agreed upon in the eternal covenant (Heb. 13:20; Ephe. 3:11): • Eternal Prophet-representative, revealer, revelation • Eternal High Priest-intercessor, confessor, advocate • Eternal King-owner-creator, inheritor, redeemer
Jesus -The Eternal Prophet Jesus is the Eternal Prophet (Rev. 19:10; Deu 18:15; Heb. 1:1-2; Matt. 17:5; Jn. 1:1) • Representative-image of the invisible God (Col. 1:15; 2:9; Jn. 3:16; 14:9) • Revealer-declares the Father (Jn. 1:18); revealer of the Father (Matt. 11:27-28) • Revelation-Logos or Word or Will of God (Jn. 1:1; Matt. 3:15; 17:5)
Jesus -The Eternal Prophet Jesus reveals God in Himself through: • His word (Heb. 1:1-2; 2 Pet. 1:21) • His theophanies (Jn. 14:21; Tit. 2:13-14) • Visions and dreams (1 Ki. 3:5; Dan chp. 2) • Biblical miracles (Jn. 20:31; Warning: Deut 13:1-3) • Creation (Ps. 19:1, Rom 1:18-20) • By conscience (Rom. 2:14-15) • By coming in the flesh (Jn. 1:1, 14, 16-18)
Jesus-The Eternal High Priest Jesus is the Eternal High Priest (Ps. 110:4-the Lord hath sworn and will not repent. Thou art a High Priest forever…) • High Priestly Functions of Christ is seen by His mediatorial functions of: • Interceding-He is the High Priest and eternal sacrifice (Lamb of God) at the same time. (Heb. 7:25; cf. Rom. 8:34) We come to God by Him. • Confessing-direct confession (Matt. 10:32-33) before the Father is not ours but by Jesus • Advocacy-advocacy of Jesus offers propitiation for the sins of the whole world
Jesus-The Eternal King Jesus is the Eternal King. Heb. 1:8-Thy throne O God is forever and ever; cf. 2 Pet. 1:11 • Creator-Owner of all things (Jn. 1:3, 10-11; Col. 1:16; Heb. 1:3) • Inheritor of all things (Heb. 1:3) • Redeemer/Savior of the world/all things (Jn. 4:42; 1 Jn. 4:14;
Jesus, our Prophet, our High Priest, our King • Heb 1:3 Who (Jesus) being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, (our God) and upholding all things by the word of his power (Prophet), when he had by himself purged our sins (Priest), sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high (King).
Jesus, our Prophet, our High Priest, our King • Heb 12:24 and to Jesus, the mediator32 of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks of something better than Abel's does. (Priest) • Heb 12:25-27 Take care not to refuse the one who is speaking! For if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much less shall we, if we reject the one who warns from heaven? Then his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, "I will once more shake not only the earth but heaven too.“ Now this phrase "once more" indicates the removal of what is shaken, that is, of created things, so that what is unshaken may remain. (Prophet) • Heb 12:28-29 So since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us give thanks, and through this let us offer worship pleasing to God in devotion and awe. For our God is indeed a devouring fire. (King)
Isaiah 61:1-2 • Isa 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; • Isa 61:2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God.
