Stay Alert! Don’t Get Hurt! • Always look both ways before crossing the tracks & never cross or run in front of an approaching train or between two stopped trains. • Use caution when sharing the road with trains. Pay attention to changing traffic patterns & follow the roadway. • Stay alert & obey blank-out signs. Blank-out signs will automatically activate & light up when a train is approaching.
Any Time is Train Time! • Any Track • Any Direction • Any Time
Any Time is Train Time! • Pay attention! Light rail trains are quiet & may travel on any track at any time. • Don’t cross tracks unless you have enough room to cross without stopping & can totally clear the tracks to a safe distance. • When waiting for a train, always stand behind textured warning strips & never walk beyond the end of the station platform.
Forget Shortcuts! • Only cross at designated crosswalks & cross quickly without stopping. • Never try to race a train to an intersection. Trains are closer & faster than they appear & they can’t stop quickly or swerve to avoid a collision. • Never drive around lowered crossing gates!
Tracks are for Trains! • Never walk or stand on train tracks or bridges or inside fences along to the track. • Never climb on trains or play around overhead wires, power system poles, or tracks. • Never stop or park your bike or car on train tracks.
Stay Off! Stay Away! Stay Alive! You! Safety Starts with You! ®
You! Safety Starts with You! • Never throw anything at passing trains or onto tracks. • Avoid electrocution! Stay away from overhead wires & power system poles. • Trespassing is dangerous and illegal. Stay off of train tracks!
Tips for Drivers • The Tide intersects with traffic at 27 locations along the 7.4 mile route. Stay alert! • Don’t stop, pass or shift on the tracks. If you can’t fit don’t commit. • Light rail trains overhang the track by 2 ½ feet on each side.
Tips for Drivers If your vehicle stalls on the tracks don’t hesitate. Get out of the car right away & run away from the tracks in the direction of the train.
Tips for Pedestrians/Bicyclists • When downtown look around. Pay attention to your surroundings. • Only cross at designated crosswalks. • Always get off & walk your bike across the tracks.
Safety on the Platform • Always wait for existing passengers to exit the train before boarding. • Don’t try to flag the train down. The train will stop at every station. • Obey all safety rules on the station platform.
Safety on the Train • Use handrails when standing • Don’t block doorways or emergency exits • In case of an emergency stay calm & listen to all operator instructions
