Objectives By the end of this presentation, you should obtain information regarding: • Degree requirements; • Work Experience required; • Detailed coursework requirement (based on current licensure area); • 10-hour New CDC/SPC Induction; • Next step after completing requirements; • MOODLE information site.

  3. Degree Requirement You can hold one of three types of degrees: Bachelor’s Degree and current license in Career and Technical Education (CTE) program area; OR Bachelor’s Degree and current license in Exceptional Children’s (EC) Education; OR Masters Degree in School Counseling.

  4. Work Experience • CTE program area teacher; • Administrator of Special Education; • Special Education teacher; • After-school program director; • Curriculum director or specialist • Career Development Coordinator; • Guidance counselor; • Reading specialist; • School Administrator; • Speech and language pathologist; • Student/personnel administrator; • English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor; • Child care administrator; • Child support agency/social worker; • Professional tutor. In addition to the Degree Requirement(s), you must have one year work related experience. Examples of Work Related Experience

Coursework RequirementsBachelors Degree & CTE Certification • Instructional Methods/Teaching Strategies of Special Needs Students • Instructional Methods/Teaching Strategies (as it relates to) Diversity • Instructional Methods/Teaching Strategies (as it relates to) Psychology • Classroom Assessment and Evaluation • Classroom Assessment and Evaluation (as it relates to) Exceptionalities • Principles of Career Counseling and Development • Theories and Techniques of Counseling • Career Development Facilitators Course* A total of 12 semester hours (with a minimum of 6 semester hours per school year) is required from the following courses: * Six (6) hours of the required 12 hours may be obtained from the completion of the Career Development Facilitator course available through NC Workforce Development Training Center (in cooperation with NCDPI and NC Workforce Development Board).

Coursework RequirementsBachelors Degree & EC Certification • Cultural Diversity Counseling • Principles of Career Counseling and Development • Theories and Techniques of Counseling • Group Counseling • Career Development Facilitator Course* A total of 12 semester hours (with a minimum of 6 semester hours per school year) is required from the following courses: * Six (6) hours of the required 12 hours may be obtained from the completion of the Career Development Facilitator course available through NC Workforce Development Training Center (in cooperation with NCDPI and NC Workforce Development Board).

  7. Coursework RequirementsMaster’s Degree in School Counseling • Instructional Methods/Teaching Strategies of Special Needs Students • Reading in the Content Area • Classroom Assessment and Evaluation (as it relates to) Exceptionalities • Career Development Facilitators Course* A total of 12 semester hours (with a minimum of 6 semester hours per school year) is required from the following courses: * Six (6) hours of the required 12 hours may be obtained from the completion of the Career Development Facilitator course available through NC Workforce Development Training Center (in cooperation with NCDPI and NC Workforce Development Board).

  8. 10-Hour CDC/SPC Induction 10-hour New Career Development Coordinators/Special Populations Coordinators Induction Program approved by the NCDPI Division of Career and Technical Education is required (Effective July 1, 2012).

  9. Upon Completion… Upon completion of Coursework and 10-hour Induction: • Complete Form U and document work experience. • Send form to your LEA’s HR personnel.
