Small States History and Purpose • “Small" states are characterized by • Inconsistent funding for enterprise-wide information projects • Small and dispersed funding sources • Limited information technology staff and/or • Fewer facilities to regulate • Small States group aims to provide ideas and foster connections between states
Small States Call Topics in 2004-2005 • Facility Identification - November 3, 2004 • Idaho DEQ and Kansas DHE demonstrated facility profiler applications. • Small States participants discussed the examples and listened to a vendor roundtable discussion of future possibilities for facility profiler development.
Small States Call Topics in 2004-2005 • Spatial Data Management - April 7, 2005 • Indiana DEP presented several websites that utilize ArcIMS including the Indiana Water Quality Atlas and the Indiana Geological Survey's Indiana GIS Atlas. • Montana DEQ demonstrated their use of ArcSDE to store Underground Storage Tank data.
Small States Call Topics in 2004-2005 • Content Management - July 20, 2005 • Maine DEP presented an image management system for waste manifests and spill reports. • Washington DOE provided an overview of the Gartner assessment performed for the agency and a presented on a state well logs document management project.
Small States Call Topics in 2004-2005 • Field Remote / Data Collection - October 11, 2005 • New York DEC presented on their use of handheld devises to collect information on forest pests. • Minnesota PCA presented on their use of tablet PCs to record field inspections for the stormwater program.

Brainstorming Session • Objective: determine top five areas of interest for future Small States calls • Suggestions received to date include: • Air program management (i.e. permitting or inspections) • Exchange Network grant application collaboration (this would be held after grant guidance distributed but before applications due) • GPS standards • Masterfile Report (currently under discussion by the IMWG) • Others?
