What is an Interview? a conversation between two or more people (the interviewer and the interviewee) where questions are asked by the interviewer to obtain information from the interviewee
Purpose of Interview • Define and evaluate your place in the ‘current • race’ • Validate information that you may already have • Identify customers’ needs and requirements and • what they think of you and your programme • Discover how you may delight your customers • more in the future • Provide an evaluation of advertising and • promotional strategies and their content • Reveal opportunities for the development of the • organisation and improved competitiveness
Types of Interview • Structured Interview • Semi-Structured Interview • Unstructured Interview
Interview Questions Topic 1. Background / Demographics standard background questions 2. Knowledge to get facts about a topic 3. Sensory what people have seen, touched, heard, tasted or smelled 4. Behaviour what a person has done / is doing 5. Opinion / Values what a person thinks about a topic 6. Feelings what a person feels about a topic
Wording of Interview Questions Questions should be: • open-ended • as neutral as possible • asked one question at a time • worded clearly • carefully asked, especially “why” questions
What to do for an Interview? Before • Determine what information you want to get • Identify who you want to interview • Consider the information you want to gather and start designing questions • Approach / make an appointment with interviewee • Be honest with your purpose • Let the interviewee schedule the interview

(Con’t) • Arrive on time • Dress appropriately • Ask permission for any recording • Be prepared with the questions • Ask one question at one time • Encourage response • Interact with the interviewee • Let the person finish before proceed to the next question • Use interviewee’s responses to keep the interview on track • Provide transition between major topic • Thank the interviewee for his/her time • Offer token of appreciation During
