Steps to Alleviate Stress Tell your situation to your parents or a teacher or guidance counselor You aren’t alone Identify the problem Face it and take it on Avoidance will only allow it to fester Admit to yourself how things REALLY are Approach it cognitively (cognitive restructuring) Realign expectations, prioritize Shift gears, change your attack Regain perspective, look at the BIG picture Be positive Our interpretation of a situation can make it negative or positive See if you can LAUGH at the situation SMILE as much as you can Look for the silver lining---is there any GOOD which can come out of this? Don’t dwell on your weaknesses Do something for OTHERS Say something positive to another person
