Annual Weekend Events 1 • NESST – 18 mile challenge hike around Walesby, North Notts. 6pm-3am 2nd/3rd Sat in Jan • High Adventure ( County Event ) – Last weekend March – High level hill walking and navigation challenge. • St George’s Day Parade – Whitwick – end April • Ashby 20 Race – 5 weeks before London Marathon Introduction to ENDURANCE ESU

Annual Program Nights • Newbie programme – first 6 nights of Autumn and Winter terms • 1. Team game/challenge evening for you get to know everyone • 2. Something physical – night hike, bike ride, • 3. A group fun night – laser quest, cinema, • 4. Something a bit philosophical – debates, values, policies, top 10 heroes • 5. Some scouting skills – e.g. pitching our tents so you can see what we have and how to do it in the dark when it’s raining half way up Snowden, • 6. a food night – cooking – pizza’s in the outdoor oven, cakes in a dutch oven, gutting and barbequeing a fish • First Aid – Emergency Aid 4 Introduction to ENDURANCE ESU
Other program nights Extreme pancake racing, lit fires, played ‘roundugby’ (EESU’s own combination of Rounders and Rugby), night hiking, narrowboating, visited a Fire Station, Katakanuing, indoor climbing, set off fire extinguishers, skiing, team challenges, made records, been canoeing, visited a Mosque, learnt how to navigate, mountain biking, first aid, organised expeditions, made pizzas, crate stacking, tubing, made films, caving, scuba diving, go karting, bowling, handbell ringing, debates, laser quest, bonfire, Christmas party, Introduction to ENDURANCE ESU
Do I have to do everything? • No – your choice, but if you don’t – you miss out. • Key things – Ashby 20, St George’s, Remembrance Day – parental feedback requested. Introduction to ENDURANCE ESU
Expeditions • XS09 Scotland – Climbed Ben Nevis, Highest Mountain in the UK at 4,406’, Mountain Biked across Scotland (65 miles in 2 days), Ice Climbed indoors, walking in Glencoe and went swimming in the river • XW10 – North Wales – White Water Rafting, Quad Biking, High Ropes Course, Climbed all the Welsh 3000’ Mountains in 24 hours. • XM11 – Morocco – Marakkesh – bought and cooked our own food in the souks, climbed the Highest Mountain in North Africa ( Jebel Toubkal at 13,671’ ) took 2 days, rode camels across the Sahara Desert and slept out under a million stars, went swimming in waterfalls. • XS12 – Scotland – Yachting, Mountain Biking, Wild camping • XB13 – Brazil – Sao Paulo – in planning • UK expeditions are always the first full week in August. Policies • We need to be able to prove that Parents know that Explorers are participating in activities other than in The Cabin at Willesley on a Thursday Night. • Permission form preferred and most reliable. • Email / Text in emergencies – don’t forget med condition notification.
