  1. Negotiable and Non! AKA – The Care and Feeding of Us!

  2. The Concept • There are some elements of how we work that I can move around on. • There are some elements of how we work that I will not put up for debate.

  3. Negotiable • Personal Electronics • Food/Drinks • Due date – Choice of date • AOB?

  4. Personal Electronics • When it’s appropriate • Ok to use as a learning tool • Not distracting • Music while working independently with earbuds/earphones/things • Texting ^ • Leave phone on desk during discussion

  5. Food Drinks • No peanuts lol nuts • No stanky food • Clean up yo mess • Easily containable foods

  6. Due Date – Choice of date • Some say in due dates • Come to Welcher before the due date

  7. AOB? • Be scent aware

  8. Non-Negotiable • Cell Phones/laptops • Late/Attendance • Missing Assignment • Polite • Constitutional Monarchy • Discussion • YHC/Guidance/Appointments • Leaving the Room

  9. Cell Phones/Laptops • We may ask to keep it until the end of class. • You will be asked to put it away. • See me at the start of class if you must have it out for a potential “Emergency”. You may be declined if it is not an issue which could prevent learning.

  10. Late/Attendance • When the bell goes you are on my tile or you are late. I will take attendance directly after the bell. • I follow the attendance policy of the school to the L.E.T.T.E.R! I will phone home 5 & 8. At 11, I will refer you to your Vice Principal.

  11. Missing Formative Assessments • Formative assessments are completed to give me and you an idea of how well you know the material. They are commented on and reviewed. They are not optional. Incomplete formative assessments may result in a lunch time meeting to insure you are comfortable with the content. • I may also decide to contact people at your home legally responsible for you.

  12. Missing Summative Assessments • If you miss the due date we will talk about a new date. • You will get a “0” for the assessment until I get it. If I do not get it on our new date it will stay a 0. • Establishing a pattern will mean I need to contact legally responsible adults at home to see what we can do to help you.

  13. Polite • I do not demand you respect me. I want to earn the respect. • I DO DEMAND YOU ARE POLITE! This means realizing your words may hurt someone else, your actions impact others as well. • Use please and thank-you! If my 7 year old can, you can as well. • Treat my things well and put them back when you are done. Treat the possessions of others well, ask for permission to use them and return them in good condition promptly.

  14. Constitutional Monarchy • This classroom is a constitutional monarchy. You are the government. You are able to make decisions, vote, have some input into how we operate, and have a voice. • I am the Queen. I can over rule you if need be. I can make decisions about rules and laws we have not decided. • In times of crisis or war, I can make authoritarian decisions. • If our laws or rules do not work, I can change them and implement new ones I have created.

  15. Discussions • Raise your hand. • Consider the thoughts and feelings of others. • Remember our active listening.

  16. YHC/Guidance/Appointments • We have services here to help you if you need them. • If you have a study or “free” please use this time for appointments. • I AM HUMAN – you can let me know if you do not have other choices. • Please do not ask me if you can leave early for classes without a note – it puts us both in awkward positions. • If you do not bring me back proof of attendance – you were not there and will be marked late/absent.

  17. Leaving the Room • No more than 2 people out at one time. • If you need to leave several times a week you will be declined and will be absent from class without permission. • Tell me where you need to go and then go to those places. Please do not betray our trust.

  18. Questions? Comments? Concerns? We can revisit these as we need!
