“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” - St. Augustine
What is the Ponchatoula Cultural Exchange? • A new summer exchange program for students ages 16-18 • Allows you to spend two weeks this summer with a French teenager and his/her family, host a French teenager at your home, or both. • Learn about another way of life. • Immerse yourself in the French language. • Play sports, shop, go on excursions, • or just enjoy breathing fresh mountain air. • Do all this and more with the • Ponchatoula Cultural Exchange. You will be here
Where: Fontanil, France A pretty little town of 3000 people 10 minute drive from Grenoble (home to the 1968 Winter Olympics and a popular ski area) 1 hour by train from Lyon (the gastronomy capital of France) 3 hours by train from Paris Nestled in the heart of the French Alps Surrounded by mountain landscapes, nearby castles
How Does It Work? • Students are paired based on common interests (ex. sports, movies) • They correspond by email during the time leading up to the exchange. • Costs: • Students traveling to France only pay for their airfare, travel insurance, and souvenirs. • French host family pays for your meals and lodging. • The reason this program is so inexpensive is because Fontanil and Ponchatoula are Sister Cities.
Student Travel Options: • Travel alone (with parental consent) • “Unaccompanied minor” service • Student is accompanied by airline stewards from first airport, through connections/customs, and to the arrival airport (this service costs ~$100.00 extra each way) • Travel with a parent or chaperone • This person may also be hosted in Fontanil Note: Exchanges can take place consecutively in the same summer (the exchanging students can travel together during the middle leg of the trip), or separatelyover two summers.
