K-W-L What I know: • The African Wild dog runs really fast • It has fur • It eats deer • It is black and brown
K-W-L What I want to know: • What other animals do they eat? • Where do they live? • Is it a mammal?
K-W-L What I learned: • The African Wild dog is known as the painted dog or the cape hunting dog and painted wolf • It is most easily identified from both domestic and other wild dogs by their brightly mottled fur. • Their colors are red, black, white, brown, yellow, and gold. • They have large ears • They are mostly found in deserts • The number of African Wild Dogs is decreasing
Adaptations • African Wild Dogs have fur to stay warm • They also have really sharp teeth to hunt their prey • They have claws to help them catch the animal they will eat
Food Sources • African Wild Dogs primarily prey on large animals such as warthogs and numerous species of antelope, supplementing their diets with rodents, lizards, birds and insects
Natural Habitat • African Wild Dogs are found naturally roaming the deserts, open-plains and arid savanna of sub-Saharan Africa where the range of the African Wild Dog has decreased rapidly.
