You can lead students, but you can’t make them learn.
So what will you do? How will you engage them in the learning process?
That’s where the Key Elements for Stage Three come in… W.H.E.R.E.T.O.
Whereto • W = where are we going • H = hook all students and hold their interest • E = equip students, help them experience the key ideas, and explore the issues • R = provide opportunities to rethink and revise their understandings and work • E = allow students to evaluate their work and its implications • T = be tailored (personalized) to the different needs, interests, abilities of learners • O = be organized to maximize initial and sustained engagement as well as effective learning
Email for course evaluation • You should have received an email to your jhu email account requesting that you complete the course evaluation. • You can complete it anytime, even while we are still in class. • I don’t see results until a couple months after the course and results are anonymous. • On the next slide is a reminder of what our focus was for this course, or should I say enduring understandings.
Next Week • Submit your completed Course Design in the gradebook including a paragraph overview. • Be prepared to share your course design in a gallery walk format. Make it easy to see all three stages at once. Feel free to use poster board, or even printed out powerpoint slides. • Email your Wordle to me by Monday, December 12 at 9 a.m. (reflection)
