  4. Being an LSTC is like ...a plate of spaghetti because everything is going in so many different directions. ...the weather because there are stormy and calm phases with the occasional hurricane.

  5. What do I do as an LSTC??? • At the end of some days I could not tell you what I have accomplished the previous nine hours. • There is no such thing as a typical day...that’s the GREAT part about the job.

  6. For the most part this is not a task-oriented job...it is a people-oriented job • If you do not like serving and helping others, it will be difficult to be happy in the LSTC position. • Dealing with other peoples problems/needs is a large part of the LSTC position...Don’t let this frustrate you...that’s the job.

  7. Summer • Assisting summer school teachers with Successmaker and CRCT Online. • Assisting parents with at-home Successmaker. • New teacher staff development.

  8. Manage Labs • Two computer labs at Head. • Online scheduling. • Teacher request assistance as needed. • Train teachers in common tasks. • In reality, assisting teachers in instructional setting is small part of my job.

  9. Teaching Classes • RRT program (Research, Relationships, Technology) • See students 12 times per year (Two six-week sessions) • Provides some level of consistency in what students are taught related to technology • Develop lessons with lab manager.

  10. Maintaining Databases • SuccessMaker • Accelerated Reader • Star Reader • Type To Learn • Type to Learn Junior • Quarter Mile • Kid Pix

  11. Report Cards • Developing timeframe each nine weeks • Setting deadlines • Exporting • Confirming • Handwritten comments • Printing • Troubleshooting

  12. Staff Development • Could be a huge role at your school, may be smaller...has changed each year for me. • I plan staff development on an as-needed basis. • Do must of my staff development 1 to 1... or small group. • SASI, IgPro, SuccessMaker, CRCT, START, Instructional software

  13. Budget/Inventory/Equipment Maintenance • Staying up to date on technology that will make the life of LSTC and teachers easier. • Scan Converters • Cameras • AlphaSmarts • Maintaining inventory of technology. • Communication with TST related to maintenance of technology equipment

  14. Data Collection/Analysis • Profile Sheets • Successmaker • CRCT • START • Development of presentation materials for visits by Dr. Rundle.

  15. Odd Jobs • Maintain Internet Site • Maintain Intranet Site. • School-wide publication. • Maintain variety of teacher/student forms and templates. • Technology schedules, SDU Logs, RBES, SST, AKS Modification, Attendance Protocol • School Photographer (if you aren’t careful)

  17. Be aware of... • the way you talk to people • the way you treat people • a school is a very “dynamic” environment Don’t be a “Nick Burns”

  18. Conclusion • There is no such thing as a typical day in the life of an LSTC...that’s the great thing about the job. • LSTC position is often one of a problem solver. I see a problem and my job is to find a solution. • Most of the time you are dealing with other people’s problems...or working on matters that others deem important. Don’t let this frustrate you...that’s the job. • If you enjoy helping and serving others you will love this job...If not ...
