Natural Vegetation • Natural Vegetation – plants that grow without any human interference • Climate and soil conditions determine what type of natural vegetation occurs • Plants must have moisture and heat to survive • Warm moist climate = forest, large trees • Warm, dry climate = short grasses

  3. Types of Vegetation • Canada has 3 main types of vegetation • Tundra • Forest • Grassland • Forest vegetation is predominant

  4. Vegetation Regions • Canada consists of 7 natural vegetation regions • Tundra • Boreal and Taiga Forest • Mixed Forest • Deciduous Forest • Grassland • Cordilleran Vegetation • West Coast Forest

  5. Transition Zone • The change from one region to another is gradual and represents an area called transition zone • Transition zone – characteristics of one vegetation region gradually changes into that of another
