Mentoring • A process by which an experienced and empathetic practitioner in good standing (mentor) influences the growth and refinement of a protégé’s professional and personal life. • Requires mutual voluntary participation and collaboration between the mentor and the protégé. • Intended to cultivate the working processes, career success and job satisfaction for both the mentor and protégé.
Preceptors • Preceptors function as clinical educators, providing education in a clear and concise manner, yet remaining open and respectful. • Their objective is to improve the existing skill set, and create a positive change in the work culture. • Time limited, with transition of responsibility • Preceptors require additional instructional skill-sets that transcend the traditional clinical knowledge and abilities.

Beneficiaries • Student enrollment, involvement in respiratory programs. • Emerging leaders seeking engagement • State affiliates, the AARC. • Practitioners transitioning from student-to-novice-to-experienced Therapist. • The seasoned Respiratory Therapist.

The House of Delegates provides the following tools to the chartered affiliates to grow your own mentor and preceptor programs. Affiliates are encouraged to share this information within their state and to improve on them.

Preceptor Workshop • Opportunity to formalize the training for those providing clinical instruction and orientation. • Presentation is provided for the affiliates use. • Engagement of educators and managers in the affiliate.
