Key is to push to a point where a defender must cover yet you can still get off a good pass. • Offense to set up in a triangle and move ball quickly for open player. • Defense to set up in an I with man “on ball” and other “D” directly behind. • As ball rotates, D rotates to ball and maintains I. • Goalie to call out ball location and “hold” vs “Check” calls. • Rotate clockwise. • Keys of Drill: • Always be moving to ball to insure “D” must slide. • All catching and shooting in outside hands. • “D” to have sticks up and in passing lanes. • “D” to have lots of talk with goalie.

If “O” gets the ball they get into triangle offense and push for goal. If “D” gets the ball they must clear past restraining box. • Rotate clockwise. • Keys of Drill: • Always be moving to ball to insure “D” must slide. • All catching and shooting in outside hands. • “D” to have sticks up and in passing lanes. • “D” to have lots of talk with goalie.

After first pass defense rotates keeping triangle. “D” on the ball should never rotate to the ball as it will leave offense open in front of net. “O” to look at diagonal skip passes. • Goalie to call out ball location and “hold” vs. “Check” calls. Rotate clockwise. • Keys of Drill: • Always be moving to ball to insure “D” must slide. • All catching and shooting in outside hands. • “D” to have sticks up and in passing lanes. • “D” to have lots of talk with goalie.
4 v 3 w/ Weave Clear D1 D2 G O1 O3 P1 D3 O2 O4 O5 • Drill Details: • Drill starts with “D1” getting ball and passing to D3 cutting to the ball. D3 passes to cutting O4 who passes to cutting O5. O5 takes pass and pushes into standard 4 v 3. Attack is preset into fast break position and stays in position for entire drill. Attack can rotate off if you have more than 3 attack. After “D3” makes pass to :O4” defense sets up in standard triangle. • D rotates clockwise. “O4” and “O5” rotate back and forth only. • Insure a lot of balls so D is moving quickly after shot or dropped pass. • . • Keys of Drill: • Always be moving to ball to insure “D” must slide. • All catching and shooting in outside hands. • “D” to have sticks up and in passing lanes. • “D” to have lots of talk with goalie.
Numbers Drill (Fast break situations) D1 D2 D3 D4 D5 D6 G C O1 O2 O3 O4 O5 O6 • Drill Details: • Coach call out a number 2-6 and rolls out the ball. The number called represents the amount of offensive players to run on field. Defensive players automatically subtract one player from the number called and run on the field to defend man-down situation. • This is a good twist on 3 v 2 and 4 v 3 drills, but can also be 5 v 4. • Players rotate to back of the line after each drill. • Keys of Drill: • Offensive and defensive communications. • Quick movement to get into proper locations on the field. • Always be moving to ball to insure “D” must slide. • All catching and shooting in outside hands. • “D” to have sticks up and in passing lanes. • “D” to have lots of talk with goalie.
D clear 4 in a box P1 G D2 P2 D1 P3 D4 D3 P4 • Drill Details: • Drill starts with “D1” and “D2” making banana cuts to sidelines just above GLE. • Goalie hits either D1 or D2. D3 & D4 cut towards the ball and look for pass. • Defender with ball looks up field but has no pass so must throw long rotation pass to other D. On second long pass, D3 cuts to ball for a pass and then looks up field for D4 cutting open for pass towards midfield line. You can use middies instead of D-Poles for D4 and D3 spot. You can also clear and then come back with a two on two drill with D4 and D3 on offense. • . • Keys of Drill: • Good banana cut to sideline looking for pass. D to insure they are wide and open up field. • Always be moving to ball to insure catch. • All catching and throwing in outside hands and across body. • Good communications calling for the pass and breaking to pass. • Goalie to have good communications.
3 Man Weave or Straight 3 Man Passing P3 P2 P1 X1 X2 X3 • Drill Details: • Drill starts with X1 throwing pass to X2. After each throw player runs behind person they threw to and runs up field in a weave. X2 catches and throws to X3. After X2 throws, he runs behind X3 and up field for next throw from X1. • Players go from mid field to end line. You can add a shot if you want. You can also add ground balls. • Straight line passing is same concept but players stay in straight lines and middle player must catch and throw to both sides changing hands. • . • Keys of Drill: • Throwing across body and catching with body going down field. • Always be moving to ball to insure catch. • Good communications calling for the pass and breaking to pass. • Rotate clockwise.
Breakout drill to attack P1 D2 P2 D1 P3 X2 M1 A1 M1 P4 D4 M1 A1 D4 M1 D4 A1 D4 D4 D3 A2 A1 Drill Details: Goalie starts drill with pass to D1 with banana cut to sideline. D1 makes long clear pass over to D2. D2 turns up field and hits M1 cutting to the ball. M1 turns up field and now must hit attack getting open to the ball. Attack is covered closely (shut down) by D player. M1 must pass ball to A2 prior to hitting mid field or drill is over. Once pass is make from D2 to M1, the drill starts the other side with D2 getting pass from Goalie and hitting D1 across field. New M1 cuts to pass and hits A1. .Additional Attack, Middies and Defense stay in middle of field and rotate clockwise. Coach will rotate close D with D on attack after several rotations.
