Basics Definitions Advisor = You (aka faculty member, professor) Advisee = Student
What Does An Advisor Do? • Answer questions about college and courses • Provide career advice or suggest other members of the college community • Assist advisee in course selection (this is why you are here today)
Advisee Data • Business School Student • May be in major outside your dept. • Completed at least 45 credits • Not a senior • Not in 150 credit Acct. Major • Not in MBA Program
Advisement Plan • E-mail advisee • Advisee makes an appointment • Advisee brings copy of transcript and Spring 2011 course selection to appt. • Jointly complete curriculum sheet • Review Spring 2011 course selection • Send advisee to Rhonda for clearance
Curriculum Sheets • Graduation requirements listed under categories • Helps identify which requirements have been completed / not completed • Curriculum Sheets are major specific • “Cover Sheets” in packets may not be complete
Completing Curriculum Sheet • Identify transfer credits (X in transfer) • Passed courses (X in MC) • Currently enrolled (E in MC) • Can verify passed and transfer credits via transcript • Use web tool or Course Catalog to verify requirements
Grades Needed To Pass A Course • A grade of C or higher is required only for major courses (5 non-acct, 8 acct) • A grade of D or higher is required for all other courses • Faculty can access student transcripts in self-service (Student Information Menu, Academic Transcript)
Advising Web Tool • Identifies courses/restrictions for all categories on the curriculum sheet • Identifies minor courses – also found in course catalog • URL will be e-mailed
New Course Selection • Spring 2010 course list in advising packet • School of Business Prerequisites Note: Fin 301 must have Econ 201& Econ 227 (or CIS 227) and ACCT 201 • Also can use web tool
