  1. Temperate Deciduous Forest • Location- North America, Europe, Asia • Climate- warm summers, cool winters • Temperature -3 to 18 0C. • Precipitation- between 75 cm to 150 cm (30 to 56 inches) annually

  2. Has four (4) seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. • Animals and plants are adapted to cope with seasonal changes. Ex: some hibernate • Soil is very fertile Animals: worms, snakes, squirrels, rabbits, frogs, salamanders, raccoons, deer, bear, insects, coyotes, chipmunks, flying squirrels, hawks, owls, songbirds etc. Plants: Deciduous Trees- meaning They lose their leaves In winter (Oak, Maple, Hickory, Beech), Spring flowering Herbs and other plants.

Savanna/Grasslands Location- North America, Australia, Asia, South America, Africa Climate- warm summers, cold winters (Savannas do not have cold winters which is near the equator) Average Annual Temperature - -16 0C to 34 0C Average Annual Precipitation- 25-75 cm Made up of prairies or plains & dominated by grasses

Precipitation averages 200-600 cm per year (that’s 78 – 236 inches!! ) Tropical Rainforest Contains four zones – forest floor, understory, canopy, and emergents Location: in South America, Central America, C. Asia, Australia, And Africa on or near the equator. The most biologically diverse biome on Earth.

  12. Tropical Rainforest Animals Silvery Gibbon Vampire Bat Sloth Most diverse in the world Animals include: beetles, spiders, snakes, Bats, squirrels, monkeys, tree frogs, and sloths.

  13. Tropical Plants Durian Tree Most diverse in the world. Mangrove Tree Jambu Rose Plants include: banyan trees, wild figs, Mahogany trees (form canopy) and Bromeliads.

  14. Did You Also Know? • The rainforest is home to two-thirds of all the living animal and plant species on the planet • Has no seasons • Has very poor soil due to leeching from so much rain

  15. Did you know…? there are two types of Rainforest -- the temperate and the tropical? Tropical rainforests are found close to the equator. Temperate rainforests are found along coasts in the temperate zone, such as the Pacific Northwest of the USA. Both are endangered! Tropical rainforests are warm and moist; while temperate rainforests are cool. It rains a lot in the temperate rainforest -- about 100 inches per year.
