  3. Key Priorities:↑Clinical Learning Opportunities Year 1: • IntroduceClinical skills laboratory sessions • Use of simulation to enhance science teaching • Early clinical attachments to start in Dec 2011

Review of curriculum content • Lecture content has been reviewed in years 1-3 for many subject panels • ↓Lecture teaching • Small group teaching/practicals – (102 hrs-yr2) • Major revision of public health component of Health In Society • Working with SOCSI to review sociology aspects of HIS • Key researchers have delivered some lectures in year 1

Year 3 • In 2011 – time after SSC project will be used for a programme of activities re : developing students’ skills in areas such as teaching, leadership and team working. • For 2012 working to improve continuity of placements • To increase clinical experience in one place • Dr RhianGoodfellow leading review group

  12. Year 4 • 2010-11 Introduction of opportunity for re-sit examination in July 2011, after further clinical experience • Extensive review of questions / standard setting and development of OSCE feedback for students • Structure of year 4 will change in 2012 to fit with plans for year 5 in 2013

Year 5 – 2011/12 Final year placements will be: • Diagnostic Synthesis in Surgery /Medicine in June / July 2011 • Restart in September with 3 placements • Final assessments in March 2012 • ‘Student assistantships’ in April 2012, in FY1 posts • Elective in April –June • Re-sits in June if required.

  14. ‘Student assistantship’ ‘A period during which a student acts as assistant to a junior doctor, with defined duties under appropriate supervision’ • Students will be allocated to their FY1 team to become involved with all activities

  15. Prescribing Skills Assessment • Joint project between British Pharmacological Society (BPS) and Medical Schools’ Council (MSC) • Have participated in pilot projects • Delivery ‘ on-line’ • Could possibly start in 2012/2013 • Need to ensure our students are prepared

  16. Year 5 / FY1 Harmonisation

Year 5 / FY1 Harmonisation Project • For year 5 in 2013 • Final summative assessment will be before start of year 5 • Followed by extensive clinical experience in General practice and secondary care • Training in management of acute problems, with use of simulation and ward experience • Elective • Service improvement projects / leadership

Other projects / changes • Appraisal – ‘one to one feedback’- years 3-5 • Undergraduate Performance Programme • Situational Judgement tests Being piloted by UK Foundation programme Will be part of assessment for entry to Foundation Programme ? 2012 Review of staff training / staff development / appraisal / recognition of teaching as part of job planning
