Who we are. • Established at Western in 1989 • First of its kind in the world • Remains the only such Centre in the Americas • Mission: the generation and dissemination of academic scholarship focused specifically on the socio-cultural study of the Olympic Games and the Olympic Movement Janice Forsyth, PhD Director

  5. Four primary activities. 1) Produce Olympika: The International Journal of Olympic Studies • refereedscholarly journal • internationally recognized editorial review board • currently published annually • available for subscription worldwide

Four primary activities. 2) Host the International Symposium for Olympic Research • organized every Olympic year • including (but not limited to): history, sociology, philosophy, management, health sciences, media studies, business, law • papers published in peer-reviewed Proceedings • future sites (in discussion) • Sochi 2014, Rio 2016 9th International Symposium @ Beijing, China At the Capital Institute of Physical Education, prior to Opening Ceremonies, 2008 Olympics. More than 70 contributors, 100 participants.

Four primary activities. 4) Lead a world renowned (public) resource centre – The ICOS • for the use by graduate and undergraduate students • faculty and visiting scholars worldwide • interested experts and general public Donated collection in resource centre.
