  2. Thesis • The thesis is a statement of opinion, which the entire essay is designed to support. • It tells the reader what the essay is going to be about and is often presented in a single sentence.

  3. Thesis • The thesis of your essay should include your main argument and at least three “prongs” (reasons) that support it. • Each of these “prongs” will become the topic of one of your essay’s body paragraphs.

  4. Sample Thesis • This year, Peyton Manning will lead the Broncos to a Super Bowl victory because his arm strength keeps improving, he has had another year to work out his timing with receivers, and he now has Wes Welker to catch his passes.

  5. Sample Thesis • Main argument: This year, Peyton Manning will lead the Broncos to the Super Bowl. • Prong A:Arm strength keeps improving. • Prong B:Another year to work on timing with receivers. • Prong C: Now has Wes Welker to catch his passes.
