  10. to identify: look at the carbon the hydroxyl group (-OH) is attached to. primary ====> only one other carbon attached to the carbon with the -OH gp secondary =====> 2 other carbons attached to the carbon with the -OH gp tertiary =====> 3 other carbons attached to the carbon with the -OH gp

  11. 1. Review homework problems from Friday after papers returned and 2. Classwork problems from Monday (stamped & returned)

  12. COPY WHITEBOARD FROM WEB 5/16/2013 Standards: 10 (Organic Chemistry) Objectives: ● Review yesterday's CW ● Students will be able to identify and name aldehydes and ketones. DO NOW: 1. Write 2 examples of each: primary alcohol, secondary alcohol, tertiary alcohol. 2. Write an explanation of what the names primary, secondary, and tertiary refer to. CLASSWORK: 1. Org Chem HW Probs - Sheet 3 - 71, 72, 73 (a,b,c,d only), 74 (b,c,d,e) (5 pts) Std 10 EX CR HW - Sheet 3 - 116 (a,b,c,d,e) (2 pts max) Std 10 =========================================================== STAMPING: ●  Journal 5/15/13 - What you learned about alcohols. 1. 13. CW Wed 5/15

  14. Naming Aldehydes names end in -al carbonyl group ( ) on end of chain C=O carbon from carbonyl group will always be carbon 1

  15. Naming Ketones names end in -one carbonyl group ( ) never on end of chain C=O carbon from carbonyl group will never be carbon 1

  16. Aldehydes Examples

  17. Ketone Examples

  18. HW from weekend due 5/13 Org Chem HW Probs - Sheet 1

  19. Final Notebook Grading (NB3) for Spring 2013 As of last Friday 5/10, the total stamps = 348 POINTS ESTIMATE FOR END OF SEMESTER = MORE THAN 400 POINTS 16 - 18 13 - 15 10 - 12

  20. COPY WHITEBOARD FROM WEB 5/17/2013 Standards: 10 (Organic Chemistry) Objectives: ● Review yesterday's CW - aldehydes, ketones, halocarbons ● Students will be able to understand the Acid/Base Lab. DO NOW: 1. CLASSWORK: 1. =========================================================== STAMPING: ●  Journal 5/16/13 - What you learned about naming aldehydes, ketones, and halocarbons. 1. 21. 5/17/2013 Standards: 10 (Organic Chemistry) Objectives: ● Students will be able to understand the Acid/Base Lab. ● Students will be well prepared for Acid/Base Lab DO NOW: 1. I will assign groups of 8 and prepare presentation that any member of your group can give on how the procedure assigned should be done. (5 pts) for each person in group HOMEWORK: 1. Prepare for the Acid Base lab - be sure you know strong vs weak acids, and each procedure in the lab. Mr. Wigger will not give any direction on Monday. Everyone works in groups at their lab stations and should understand what we are doing in each procedure. =========================================================== STAMPING: ●  Journal 5/16/13 - What you learned about naming aldehydes, ketones, and halocarbons. 1. Org Chem HW Probs - Sheet 3 - 71, 72, 73 (a,b,c,d only), 74 (b,c,d,e) (5 pts) Std 10 EX CR HW - Sheet 3 - 116 (a,b,c,d,e) (2 pts max) Std 10 This method of lab prep really works well

  22. ANNOUNCEMENTS Acid Base lab coming next Monday (read and understand this lab, be sure you understand the difference between strong and weak acids. See Ch 19 for help. Responder quiz (5 pts) Mon before lab Quiz 3.5 coming next Wed. Organic (Ch 22 & 23) and Acid Base Lab Notebooks will be collected on this schedule Wed 5/22 - Periods 1 & 2 Th 5/23 - Periods 3 & 5 Fri 5/24 - Period 6

  23. Group Instructions 1. Read section of the lab your are assigned 2. Prepare a script to describe in detail what to do and be ready to demonstrate it for your part of the lab. Give background to help understand what you need to do in this part of the lab. 3. One person from your group will be picked to give your report. That person must have their own paper with the notes he/she will be using to give the report to the class. 4. Each person in the group will get 1-5 pts depending on the quality of the "representative's" report. Everyone must have names of everyone in group.

  24. Goggles for the whole lab. Form groups of 3 Your lab drawer # is your Group # 3 JOBS IN EACH GROUP: 1. Recorder 2. Performer 3. Gofer (collects and returns chemicals etc DO NOT MOVE TRAYS OF CHEMICALS
