Prophecies concerning Jesus Christ Revision: Week 1 “DiscoveringBible Prophecy”
Purpose of Bible Prophecy? • Testimony to God’s existence: (See Isaiah 46:9-10) • For comfort & hope: “ For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.”(Rom 15:4) • Warning of God’s judgments: • “ By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household . . .”(Heb 11:7)
Fulfilled Bible Prophecy - TYRE Probability of the Ezekiel 26 prophecy coming true: Many nations take part in the fulfilment (v3) 1 in 5 The city made flat like the top of a rock (v4) 1 in 100 Fisherman would spread their nets on it (v5,14) 1 in 10 Nebuchadnezzar shall take old Tyre (v7) 1 in 3 Its stones & timber to be laid in the sea 1 in 10 Old city would never be rebuilt 1 in 20 1 in 3,000,000 chance of fulfilment
Prophecy of Tyre - SUMMARY • 960BC - King Hiram provided workmen & timber for the temple in Jerusalem. • 587BC - It was besieged by the Nebuchadnezzar King of Babylon for 13 years. Mainland Tyre fell. • 332BC - Alexander the Great, angered by Tyre’s defiance, scraped mainland Tyre clean for material to build a causeway to the Island 800m offshore. It fell after only 7 months. • The city gradually declined in influence from that time. • Mainland Tyre was never rebuilt on the ancient site. • Fisherman use the ancient site to spread their nets today.

Prophecies concerning Jesus Christ • In the Old Testament, there are specific prophecies about the Messiah regarding: • His Birth • His Life • His Death • His Resurrection • His Ascension
God’s Promises to Abraham “ And the LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your Seed forever. ”(Gen 13:14-15) (Note: The word “descendants” in the NKJV comes from Hebrew word זרע, zera‛ = Seed) • Abraham is promised: • Land • Seed • Abraham and his Seed were promised the land as a possession FOREVER.
Jesus - The promised seed to Abraham “ Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, And to seeds, as of many, but as of one, And to your Seed, who is Christ. ”(Galatians 3:16) Jesus - Promised the land of Israel “ To your seed I will give this land.”(Gen 12:7) Jesus - All nations will be blessed in him. “ In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed ”(Gen 22:18)
Jesus - The promised seed to David “ When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you I will be his father, and he shall be My son . . .” (2 Samuel 7:12,14) Jesus is the who will sit on the Throne of David (See Luke 1:30-35) “ I have found David . . .from this man’s seed, according to the promise, God raised up a saviour - Jesus . . .” (Acts 13:22-23)
Some specific prophecies about Jesus HIS BIRTH: • Jesus to be born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14 - Matt 1:22) • To be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2 - Matt 2:6) HIS LIFE: • Jesus would speak in parables (Psalm 78:2 - Matt 13:35) • Would enter Jerusalem on a donkey (Zechariah 9:9 - Matt 21:1-9) • Would preach and heal people (Isaiah 61:1-2 - Luke 4:14-21) • Jesus would be hated without a cause (Psalm 69:4 - John 15:18-25) • Betrayed by one of his disciples (Psalm 41:9 - John 13:18-26)
Some specific prophecies about Jesus HIS DEATH: • Jesus would be led as a lamb to the slaughter (Isaiah 53:7-8 - Acts 8:30-35) • Disciples to forsake Jesus (Zechariah 13:7 - Matt 26:31-35) • His garments to be divided among men (Psalm 22:18 - Matt 27:35) • Would die of crucifixion (Psalm 22:16 - John 19:16) • Given vinegar on the cross (Psalm 69:21 - John 19:29) • Jesus’ legs would not be broken (Psalm 34:20 - John 19:33) • Crucified with other criminals (Isaiah 53:12 - Mark 15:27)
Some specific prophecies about Jesus HIS RESURECTION: • Jesus would rise from the grave after three days (Psalm 16:8-11) HIS ASCENSION: • Jesus would ascend to heaven to sit at the right hand of God (Psalm 110:1 - Acts 2:33-35)
Jesus will come again "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven." (Acts 1:11) There are over 300 references in the New testament about the return of Jesus to the Earth.
