Double length PETS: RF design update • Dimensions of the double-length PETS have been updated by CERN: • One regular cell has been added: 79 cells per rod. • Geometry of matching cell has been modified according to the results of HFSS v12. • Double choke coupler with broader bandwith.
Double length PETS: engineering design • Engineering design has started: • Manufacturing drawings of copper rod (+/- 15 micron tolerance shape, 0.4 micron roughness), RF absorbers (EKasic-F) and clamps have been reviewed by CERN. Some minor modifications are ongoing. • Cooling calculations for couplers have been approved by CERN. • We are working on the coupler design, which will be finished in few days. • Some specifications are still open: vacuum ports size and location.
Double length PETS: fabrication • Procurement of parts has been started: • OFE copper rods are being sent to companies for prototype machining. • DMP has already sent a quotation for the first rod prototype. • We are waiting for Huerta answer, and another company, Escribano, has been contacted. • We will contact ESK for the absorbers procurement. • We are searching OFE copper pipe for tank wall: Luvata, Carlier. For the time being, only 110-120 mm pipe has been located, which implies some modifications on design. • We are searching for 15 mm thick OFE copper plates for the couplers. • Laura Sánchez has participated in LOET (June 2010), a Conference on brazing and bonding techniques.
Double length PETS: next steps To finish the fabrication drawings of the PETS parts, and send them to CERN for approval. Detailed design of the RF measurement bench and tooling. Parts fabrication and ordering of commercial components.
Hammer choke David Carrillo has reviewed the RF design. Engineering design will be done once PETS one is well advanced, as that is the critical path.
Used resources report • Manpower: 5.5 engineer-months + 2 technician-months (to date, planned dedication is 12 man-months). • Materials (to date, 62500 € were foreseen): • 2009 -> 2007.48 € (travelling) + 3697.29 € (materials) = 5704.77 € • 2010 -> 6555.94 € (travelling) + 1923.45 € (materials) = 8479.39 €
