Citizens Advice Trafford Hate Crime In June 2012 the Trafford Partnership launched it’s first ‘Promoting and Advancing Equality Voluntary Sector Grants’ scheme with the support and design by the Diverse Communities Board. The focus of the scheme was on proposals for projects that contributed to the reduction of hate crime and improved health inequalities with vulnerable groups in Trafford.   4. Citizens Advice Trafford Hate Crime As a hate crime reporting centre we were aware that our performance was lacking and wondered if this was the same for other reporting centres. In February 2012 we had conducted a survey with VCS partners and with those listed as Hate Crime Reporting Centres to see how effective they were and what barriers they faced in being effective. Identifying the need for our project

Citizens Advice Trafford Hate Crime • The results of the survey suggested that… • 21% of the VCS groups reported that they didn’t have a policy for reporting hate crime. • Only 50% of the VCS groups had undertaken any training on hate crime and hate crime reporting in the last 3 years. • One of the key barriers to effectiveness was the availability, accessibility and cost of on-going training. • Identifying the need for our project

Citizens Advice Trafford Hate Crime Using this knowledge we made a bid to the ‘Promoting and Advancing Equality Voluntary Sector Grants’ scheme to develop some accessible e-learning with the aim of making a contribution to hate crime reporting in Trafford. It was proposed that the e-learning would be available free of charge to all Trafford organisations. Our bid was successful and we began developing ‘No Hate Crime’ with Reason Digital, a social enterprise. Introduction to ‘No Hate Crime’

Citizens Advice Trafford Hate Crime The development of the e-learning is entering it’s final phase, we are recruiting local people who have been victims of hate crimes to share their experiences and appear in videos as part of the training. We will be launching the training in August. Next steps
