Background of RIPOST project (as a reminder) • Post-Ebola outbreak in West Africa • ECOWAS Head of States Decision to create the ECOWAS CSDC (04/2015)WAHO being in charge to coordinate its implementation • RIPOST : AFD & French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs co-funding to WAHO for capacity strengthening in 6 Francophone ECOWAS states • WAHO sets 3 priority themes of which 2 in support to National Public Health Coordinating Institutions (synergy with ECOWAS-CSDC) • In-Service Training of public health professionals and networking • Community mobilization for community-based surveillance • Development of WAHO Network of members states and partners • WAHO & AFD joint tender to select an operator for technical assistance related to themes/component 1 & 2

Objectives and deliverables of RIPOST (Components 1 & 2) Main : To strengthen technical and managerial capacities of public health institutions in six ECOWAS member states through a twofold program • In-service-training and action-learning• Annual course on intervention epidemiology and community-based approach in emergency situationsfor 50 public health professionals (various disciplines ++)• Mentorship and professional support to improve managerial and leadership capacity of NCI and NPHI • Operational research and intervention to improve national capacity for the social and community mobilization to meet health information system’s needs for epidemic diseases control and prevention• Health barometer (pilot in Côte d’Ivoire)• Community-based surveillance networks (pilot in Guinea)• Socio-anthropological studies/surveys (Côte d’Ivoire & Guinea)
Expected impacts of RIPOST project • Health surveillance, alert and response systems are effective, operational and efficient • Epidemic prone disease data are well managed and meet good quality criteria • Outbreaks detection is much more earlier and outbreaks control more faster • NCI capacity to respond to health threats is strengthened

RIPOST governance : Steering Committee Core functions : • Define RIPOST strategic orientations • Validate activity workplans and experts /consultants selection • Decide on local options and adaptations of RIPOST in the various partner countries • Decide on partnerships in support to RIPOST implementation
