Reading Logs • Reading Logs are due at the end of each 9 week period • Complete AR test or reflection • Goals per marking period: 4 books 1st MP, 7 books 2nd -4th MP • 100 pages equals 1 book • Please read aloud to your child, this helps with fluency!
5th Grade Discipline • Three strike system: 1st - warning given, 1st check 2nd – 2nd check, miss 10 min. recess 3rd - 3rd check, no recess, a deficiency is sent home • Paperclip chain • Deficiencies • Code of Conduct • Noise Levels • 5 Deficiencies in one marking period = detention!
Other 5th Grade Procedures • May not return to class after dismissal! • Phone calls only for emergency – not forgotten stuff • Homework- due on Friday, except math which is due daily • Walking in the hallways • 3rd block • Level 0 • Straight line • Hands/feet to self • In alphabetical order
Student Dress Code • Colors – navy/white/khaki, girls – hunter classic navy plaid • Shirts must be tucked • No cargo style bottoms • Belts – brown or black • White t-shirt only under uniform shirt • Outer jackets are removed when entering the building/classroom • Hooded sweatshirts not allowed! • Shoes closed toe/heel, fastened at all times • Socks must by white or navy without design
Electronic Devices at School • Board Policy: JCDAF-R(1), adopted 7/11/2012 • Students may be permitted to use their personal electronic devices for instructional purposes and to access the District provided network/internet. Reminders: • Directions given by school personnel in regards to using personal devices must be followed. • Students shall be personally and solely responsible for the maintenance, support, and security of their personal electronic device. • The district, school or teacher shall not assume responsibility or liability for the theft, loss, or damage to personal devices, nor does it assume responsibility for the unauthorized use of any device. • While on Board property, students are not permitted to use their own personal Wi-Fi, data plans or other types of Internet access provided by Internet service providers/carriers that is not provided by The Board of Public Education. All Internet access will be filtered and recorded. • No student shall have a personal electronic device in their possession during district-wide assessments or state testing. • Students are prohibited from using any electronic devices while riding on a school bus.
Tentative Testing Schedule • SRI, OAS, MAP- September • ITBS October (3rd and 5th only) • 5th Grade Writing Assessment – March 5-6 • CRCT – April 23rd – May 2nd (5th grade must pass Math and Reading to move to 6th grade.)

Organization • Folder and notebook for each subject • Teaches organizational skills • Agenda • Students are responsible for copying homework correctly • Please do not remove papers from the folders.
Communication Folders • Every Wednesday • Initial each piece of graded work and return • Important information is included • Sign inside cover • Return by the following Wednesday to avoid a deficiency
