The discovery of new technologies is constantly changing teaching methods and practices. • Tools such as the internet are opening up a massive wealth of resources for both teachers and pupils a like. • In short it could be said that ‘‘ICT is quite simply transforming primary education.’’ (Wheeler, S. 2005)
ICT and SEN It is estimated that 1 in 10 children alone suffer from dyslexia. [www.beingdyslexic.com] These figures don’t include, children suffering from: Ilene's Syndrome ADD ADHD hearing and sight impairments physical disabilities emotional disorders metal illness ... • other forms of dyslexia including dyspraxia • exceptionally gifted children • Downs syndrome • Autism • Asperger’s syndrome • Selective mutes
How ICT can help • Independence • makes learning fun and possible to enjoy • A chance to do things which may otherwise be very difficult or impossible • Lessens the feelings of isolation and loneliness • Sense of achievement • understanding and advice
ICT can also help to include, children : • With poor health, chronic or terminal illness • who have been bullied/ or abused • Have problems at home • who live in remote areas or may not be able to travel to school • May not have access to a specialist teacher
