History Notebook Set up • We will use these notebooks EVERY day in class. • EVERYTHING we do and EVERYTHING you learn will be kept in this notebook! • It may NOT leave class unless you check it out.
Class color Like this! • Each class has a color. This makes it easy to identify your class notebooks. • As you set up your notebook, I will distribute your color tape. • Place it on the binder towards the top. • I will also place a post it note on your desk. LEAVE IT THERE! If you play with it, it will lose its stickiness!
First Page You will write anything in RED! Name US History Mrs. Jennings Class Period
Turn the page… About the Author Dedication (Your name) is an 8th grader at Tidwell Middle School and…(3 or 4 sentences about you.) I dedicate this history journal to___________. (Why?? Three or four sentences)

Turn the page…create the title page for our first unit. Unit 1 Exploration And Colonization
Grab a sticky note and write “Exploration and Colonization” on it. Stick it at the top of the Unit 1 Title Page. This will be your unit tab. Exploration and Colonization Unit 1 Exploration and Colonization
When we take notes, you will ALWAYS organize the information in the following manner… RIGHT SIDE LEFT SIDE Opening or closing questions/notes that you take during lecture Hand outs, fill in notes, maps, ANYTHING that needs to be glued in
Now comes the fun part… • Look through the magazines and cut out any words or pictures that you would like to use to decorate your journal (school appropriate, please!) • Glue them to your cover. • When you finish, see me for contact paper that will protect your cover. • Now look at your journal…admire it’s awesomeness. It will be your best friend in this class!
