Common SI Units & Conversions Meter (m)- the basic SI unit for length(distance) Grams (g)- The basic SI unit for mass. • Mass is a measure of the amount of matter in an object Volume- the amount of space matter occupies. • Solids – cubic meters (m3) • Liquids- liters (l) Temperature-measure of how hot or cold something is. measure in: • Celsius(C) • Kelvin (K)
Significant Figures • The # of digits in a measurement that you know with a certain degree of reliability. • Limit to 2 significant figures after the decimal. Ex: • 127.654321 = 127.65 • 56.28765 = 56.29
