Set Your WEEKLY Goal • Review last week. Think about positive accomplishments and some behavior you need to improve this week. Select a SPECIFIC goal for this week. • Select a SPECIFIC goal for this week. • Identify one action/behavior that needs to be changed to improve your performance this week. • Ask yourself: • How organized was I last week? • Did I get the grades I wanted to last week? • Did I get enough sleep? • Identify one action/behavior that needs to be changed to improve your performance this week. Write your personal goal on the left side of your assignment notebook. BE SPECIFIC!
Week 7October 6, 2013 Objectives/I can… Structure sentences using subordinate clauses Utilize annotations of text to accurately identify personification/similes/metaphor in literature Apply pre-reading strategies independently Generate a logical prediction of literature Identify effective introductory paragraph structure Combine sentences to include a subordinate clause Use sentence variety in writing
Week of Vocabulary • Monday – Flashcards Unit 3 words 6-10 • Tuesday – 3 compound sentence, 2 vocabulary words each (U3) • Wednesday – Recall words 1-8. make flashcards Unit 3 11-15 • Thursday – Sentences: 3 compound sentences – 2 vocabulary words each AND 5 sentences with subordinate clauses, 1 vocabulary word each • Friday – none • The 5 Minute Study Strategy must be done EVERY night for homework. Not only will you master the process of the this strategy you will learn the words for Unit 2.
Week of Reading • Monday – “Sea Devil” Elements of Fiction and Literary Devices in text • Tuesday – Comprehension Test “Sea Devil” • Wednesday – Pre-reading strategies applied indepedently, generate predictions of “Fighting off a Shark” • Thursday – Guided reading of “Fighting off a Shark” • Friday – Literary devices and Theme identification “Fighting off a Shark”
Week of writing • Monday – Writing Introductions: What is Funneling? Notes and models displaying structure and pattern • Tuesday – Guided practice of introduction writing • Wednesday – share more models of introduction, generate 2 introductions independently • Thursday – Team Writing Activity • Friday – Continue team writing Activity
Week of Grammar • Monday – Review and Quiz Writing Tool #1: Compound Sentences • Tuesday – Test: Writing Tool #1, Introduce Writing Tool #2: Subordinate Clauses, guided practice • Wednesday – Guided application of Writing Tool #2 • Thursday – (See vocabulary for independent application of Writing Tool #2) • Friday – Review Writing Tool #2, Quiz on Writing Tool #2
