Snapping Hip Syndrome • This syndrome is characterized by a snapping sensation, and you can often hear the popping noise when the hip is flexed and extended • Caused by tendons catching on bony surfaces and popped off when the hip is moved POP
Cause ● occurs between the ages of 15 - 30 • There are several known causes: • Iliotibial band snapping over the greater trochanter. • The iliopsoas tendon over the iliopectineal line. • The iliofemoral ligaments over the femoral head. • The long head of the biceps femoris tendon over the ischial tuberosity. • As well as by certain intra-articular pathology
TISSUES INVOLVED • Iliotibial Band • Iliopsoas • iliofemoral ligaments • biceps femoris tendon
Sorts Involved • In athletes such as ballet dancers, gymnasts, track and field athletes and soccer players
Signs And Symptoms • Signs • Audible popping noise • Inflammation of the illiospaos bursae • Symptoms • Pain by inflammation • Pain by popping of the tissues • Pain will decrease with rest and inactivity • Without treatment symptoms can last for months and even years

Treatment • Can heal simultaneously • Stretch out tight muscles • Should partake in HI-RICE (Hydration, Ibuprofen, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) • REST, do not exercise and keep off as much as possible
Rehabilitation and Time out • Active and passive stretches • May take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory • Once symptoms have decreased then stretches and strengthening will be done • Light exercising • Will be out of 6 to 8 weeks
Prevention • Stretch and warm-up before playing • Maintain appropriate conditioning • Avoid leg lifts and flutter kicks
