  3. Do these products REALLY represent progress? • Why? • Are all new developments good? • What are the newest developments that you are aware of?

  4. Today’s objective • You should be able to describe the use of Internet developments such as: • Web 2.0 • blogs • wikis • digital media uploading websites • social networking websites • And other emerging technologies

  5. Today: • look at some recent developments in the field of ICT. • Each of you will research one new development, paying particular regard to • whether or not it REALLY represents progress; • the hardware and software required; • how it is used; • the advantages & disadvantages of it, • and how it relates to what you have learned so far.

  6. Starter (5 mins) Video conferencing: • Hardware required? • Software required? • Input devices • Output devices • Advantages of Video conferencing? • Disadvantages of Video conferencing?

  8. Homework Complete the powerpoint presentation ready to present on Wednesday. Success criteria: • Must show clear understanding of the topic • No copying and pasting– your own words & images ONLY • Approx 5 minutes

  9. The rationale? Student recall rate 5 % Listening 10 % Reading 20 % Audio -Visual 90 % Teach others/immediate use of learning

  10. Before you start: • How many use Facebook?/Flickr? /Twitter?/Blogs? • What for?   11. Discussion… Some of these new technologies (Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, mobile phones etc) are banned in school. Should they be banned, or could they be used to enhance learning? Could you use them constructively, or would you be distracted too easily?

  12. Activity 1 (20 minutes) • Access your movies and powerpoint template • Look through the powerpoint and look at the questions you need to answer • Begin your research

  13. Activity 2 (5 minutes) • Using your summary card, summarise the topic you have been looking at – BRIEFLY!
