Assessment & Accountability National PTA is creating Assessment Guides for each CCSS State. • CCSS overview and what are standards • Why new assessments, why are these better, benefits of better tests • PARCC and SBAC info (very little – we didn’t want the focus to be on the consortia, we wanted to show state ownership)
Assessment & Accountability • Definitions of tests being created (interim, summative, formative, etc) • Sample test questions at the elementary, middle and high school levels • State-specific accountability systems at the student, teacher and school levels • What parents can expect • How parents can support their child
Assessment & Accountability • Working with each DOE to collect and verify state-specific information • The first two states (New York and Oregon) should be ready in the next few weeks • We are also trying to keep up with the rapidly changing environment around assessments – the new flexibility allowances, states shifting consortia, etc.
