Overview of CANCON • CANCON – European Guide on Quality Improvement in Comprehensive Cancer Control • Runs from Feb 2014 to Feb 2017 • Builds on work and outcomes from EPAAC • 27 “Associated Partners” across the EU • Main Partner is the National Institute of Public Health Slovenia (NIJZ) • Overall budget of €6m (Commission Funding is 50% of this)
Main Objective • Aims to contribute to improvements in overall cancer control through: • quality based cancer screening programmes, • better integration of cancer care, • community-based cancer care approaches, • providing concerted efforts in all aspects of survivorship
Objectives (2) • Creating guidance based on the best available evidence and in accordance with European quality assurance guidelines for cancer screening • Integration of services–moving from the concept of a Comprehensive Cancer Centre to a Comprehensive Cancer Care Network
Output • European Guide on Quality Improvement in Comprehensive Cancer Control • Member State Platform – discussion of key cancer control topics, delivering position papers to be used by Member States
Work Packages • 9 Work Packages in CANCON • 6 related to the Core Objectives of CANCON • 3 related to ensuring that the work objectives of CANCON are delivered • Ireland is an Associated Partner in Work Package 6 “Integrated Cancer Care”

Work Package 6 Objectives • To provide recommendations for the • organization of comprehensive cancer services, and • optimal care for the network through the synergy of all relevant institutions
