Background of Prostitution in the Netherlands: Boys • The boys and lured in at a younger age (9-17) • The prostitution of boy is less visible because of the internet, chat rooms, mobile phones and advertisements • Boys can be taken from asylum centers for prostitution (also girls) • Brought into the prostitution right because they hear from other boys (that are in the ring) that they make a lot of money

Problem: Forced Prostitution, Sex Trafficking • With Prostitution being legal in the Netherlands, Sex Trafficking is now a very profitable enterprise • 80% of prostitutes are foreign, 70% of those foreigners do not have immigration papers • There is a higher demand for prostitutes in a growing sexual industry • The number of women being trafficked has tripled
Problem: Now being Processed Dutch officials changing definition of prostitution to “Full consent to exploitation of self” From a coercion based definition • The Brothels are starting to be inspected, window rooms are the place of living for prostitutes. 1, bed, 1 toilet, 1 kitchen= one window room. • In 2007 716 victims were registered, the following year there were 809 registered victims.

Statistics -There is 20,000 to 30,000 Prostitutes in the Netherlands -80% of prostitutes in the Netherlands are not from the Netherlands -70% of prostitutes have no immigration papers, and 50% of all prostitutes are thought to be illegal immigrants from outside of the European Union.
Stats • In 2004 there was 405 trafficked people registered. Most are suspected to be forced into prostitution • In 2008, the number of trafficked people rose to 807. Most of the victims were women, and they suspect more than half of them were trafficked for sexual purposes.
More Stats • According to a report in 1996, there is at minimum 1000 Trafficked victims • Many of the Trafficked prostitutes come from Africa. Countries like Nigeria. • A large number of the trafficked prostitutes come from Eastern Europe
Anti Human Trafficking Organizations Coalition helps internationally, most common cases are sexual trafficking type cases.
Polaris Project Polaris Project: Helps Internationally end all types of Human Trafficking.
Action Plan • Inform as many people as possible about this issue. • Gather currency to support large anti human trafficking groups (i.e Coalition) • Support local organizations battling sex trafficking, locally or internationally
