  1. Sulfur Cycle By: Kaleb, Marseha, and Lily Period: 1 APES

  2. Water Sulfur trioxide Acidic fog and precipitation Sulfuric acid Ammonia Ammonium sulfate Oxygen Sulfur dioxide Hydrogen sulfide Plants Volcano Dimethyl sulfide Industries Animals Ocean Sulfate salts Metallic sulfide deposits Decaying matter Sulfur Hydrogen sulfide

  3. Dimethyl sulfide • (CH3)2S • Emissions from Phytoplankton • Occurs over oceans

  4. Sulfur dioxide • SO2 • Emissions: • Industries example : power plants • Volcanoes

  5. Sulfur Trioxide • SO3 • Primary agent in acid rain

  6. Sulfuric acid • H2SO4 • Principal uses include: ore processing • fertilizer processing • Oil refining

  7. Ammonium Sulfate • (NH4)2SO4 • Made when ammonia reacts with H2SO4 • Uses: • Fertilizer • Agricultural spray - aids for water soluble pesticides

  8. Hydrogen Sulfide • H2S • Emitted by volcanoes and hot springs • Remains in atmosphere for 18 hours • Changes into sulfur dioxide

  9. Water Sulfur trioxide Acidic fog and precipitation Sulfuric acid Ammonia Ammonium sulfate Oxygen Sulfur dioxide Hydrogen sulfide Plants Volcano Dimethyl sulfide Industries Animals Ocean Sulfate salts Metallic sulfide deposits Decaying matter Sulfur Hydrogen sulfide

  10. Importance • Nutrient for organisms • Bacteria oxidize sulfur for energy • Factor for plant productivity
