  3. “The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada” Mission Statement: “ A Link to our Past, with a Vision to our Future” Organizational Statement: “ The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada is a professional body which represents and reflects the integrity and professional contribution of Engineers, Engineering Designers, Technologists, Techncicans, and Technical Graduates in all disciplines relating to design, manufacturing and tertiary service industries. ”

  4. “ The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada ” Purpose: The Institute was primarily conceived out of necessity in 1954 to represent technical personnel who were engaged in all areas and at all levels of technology yet, who were generally not recognized for their contributions. This active group now includes professional engineers registered in Canada, UK, and USA. In this regard, the Institute upholds a moral imperative which is shared by other professional organizations, that stresses that the public's interest must be served and protected by a code of ethics which governs reasonable controls to maintain and develop due competence and knowledge in all fields of professional activity.

  5. “ The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada ” Who Do We Represent: The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada (ICEC) represents professionals in all engineering disciplines, as well as students who are undergoing a course of study at an acceptable engineering technology stream or by other means. Some members are university graduates and many are graduates from Institutes of learning in Europe, Canada and other countries. The Institute lays stress on capability and solid engineering work, with a minimum qualification for full membership of ten years in a technical or managerial position.

  6. “ The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada ” Our Humble Begining: Founded in 1954, and incorporated by Federal Charter in 1979, the Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada is a professional body which represents and reflects the integrity and professional contribution of Engineers, Engineering Designers, Technologists, Technicians, and Technical Graduates in all disciplines relating to design, manufacturing and tertiary service industries.

  7. “ The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada ” Focus: The Institute's focus is directed to Engineers, Technology and Technician graduates in engineering or applied science and to others who meet the criteria for membership due to work, study, experience and professional qualifications. The Institute recognizes the importance of its members' role in the development of Canadian industry, also their contribution to the engineering profession.

  8. “ The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada ” Representation: The Institute represents professionals in all engineering disciplines, as well as students who are undergoing a course of study at an acceptable engineering technology stream or by other means. Applications are requested worldwide. We receive applications from various Engineering and Technical Professionals such as P.Eng, P.E., I. Eng, M.I.I.E., C.E.T., and C. Tech.. Furthermore, many college and university graduates apply as well. We highly encourage all student members to join ICEC !

  10. “ The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada ” Guidelines: Members must not accept or undertake work for which they do not have sufficient competence, time or authority to perform. The Institute upholds the tenets of technology within the compliance of Federal and Provincial Government Regulations. The Institute is incorporated by Federal Charter but is not a licensing body, employment agency or training school. Attention is drawn to Government statutes governing such activities. The Institute exists to recognize the technical competence and ability of its members and has consistently been in the forefront in presenting briefs to various technical institutes and other responsible bodies.

  11. “ The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada ” Membership: Entrance into the Institute is gained by the submission of documentary evidence of technical education and work experience. Various grades of membership exist and are appropriate to an individual's training and experience. The Institute encourages its members to advance through the grades in order to attain an advanced membership status.   13. “The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada” Award Classifications: • The Robert J. Seyler Memorial Award Awards are presented to members for their "Distinguished Humanitarian Services through the Application of Engineering”. • The John Furlong Memorial Award Awards are presented to members for their "Distinguished contribution to the field of Engineering and Design Consultancy, as well as their contribution to the community."

  14. “The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada” Award Classifications Continued: • The Manuel Linden (Publications ) Award Awards are presented to members for their "Distinguished article contributions to the Institutes quartely magazine called “The Journal”. This award recongnizes excellence for technical and other informative articles that are published. • Outstanding Services/Contribution Award Awards are presented to dedicated members who over a number of years have contributed much of their valuable time in providing various services as well as promoting the public image and awareness of ICEC in Canada.

  15. “The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada” Award Classifications Continued: • Engineer of the Year Award ”For recognition of a member’s outstanding achievement in engineering sciences, technology and notable contribution to the engineering profession by attaining the highest standards of excellence and distinguished accomplishments in his field of endeavour."

  16. “ The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada ” • Code of Ethics: • Duty To The Public, The Employer, And To The Institute • Members shall protect, to the fullest extent, the interests of their employers and provide protection for the public's welfare. • Members will not deliberately misrepresent qualifications or abilities or lay claim to qualifications they do not possess to further their own ambitions at the expense of the employer, clients or colleagues. • Members shall undertake only such work as they are competent to perform by virtue of their training and experience. • Members shall, at all times, discourage exaggerated statements concerning any project for which they are a part.

  17. “ The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada ” • Code of Ethics Continued: • Members shall always endeavour to return full value for remuneration received and strive constantly for increased knowledge within the bounds of their field of practice. • Members shall disclose to an employer or client the possibility of a conflict of interest, if such conflict could be detrimental to the interest of either party. • Members will not directly or indirectly use any information, confidential or otherwise, which is adverse or detrimental to the interests of the employer or client. • Members shall not disclose confidential information concerning the business affairs or the technical process of their present or former employer without their consent.

  18. “ The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada ” • Code of Ethics Continued: • Members shall not maliciously or falsely, directly or indirectly, injure the professional reputation, prospects, practice or employment of another member, nor shall they indiscriminately criticise another's work. • Members or person attempting to obtain membership will not, by word or deed, deliberately and maliciously attempt to injure the reputation of the Institute or any of its members. • Members will endeavour to co-operate with others and agree to the dissemination of new methods and technical knowledge, providing they are not placed in violation of any part of the Institute's "Code of Ethics”.

  19. “ The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada ” • Code of Ethics Continued: • Members will be cognisant of Federal and Provincial Government statutes pertaining to the practice of engineering in Canada, and will not misrepresent by the use of the membership stamp or, in any other manner our Institute, as a Licensing Body for the practice of Professional Engineering in Canada nor indicate our affiliation with other Institutes or Associations. • Members of The Institute of Chartered Engineers of Canada agree to uphold these ethical standards, known as the "Code of Ethics," and encourage, by advice and example, others to adhere to these standards.
